Mary Leach Werner

Mary Leach Werner is a director and vice-president of The North American Land Company, LLC and The Sweet Lake Land & Oil Company, LLC. Both companies are family businesses founded and run by Mary's family since the 1800's. Business activities include land management, farming, ranching, a commercial wildlife, wing shooting and fishing lodge, commercial property development in Texas and Louisiana and oil and gas exploration and asset management. Mary is also a Director and Secretary of CKX Lands Inc., a public land management company also located in southwest Louisiana. She currently serves on the Committee of 100 for Economic Development in Louisiana.

 

Mary's interest in development in the non profit sector grew out of her volunteer work in her children's school. Her work includes serving 8 years as a trustee, and as the board chair and the Comprehensive (Capital and Annual) Campaign chair of Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School in Lake Charles.

 

As a community activist in Lake Charles and southwest Louisiana, she has served on the boards of the American Heart Association, Calcasieu Area board of the American Cancer Society, Art Associates of Lake Charles, Education and Treatment Council/Harbor House, the Louisiana Preservation Alliance, the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, Lake Charles Civic Ballet, Children's Museum of Southwest Louisiana, the Imperial Calcasieu Museum, the Louisiana

Center for Women in Government, Second Harvest Food Bank and the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana. She was a founding board member of the Family Foundation of Southwest Louisiana, supporting Family and Youth Counseling Agency. Mary was appointed by Governor John Bel Edwards to the Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors in 2017 and was elected Chair for 2019-2020.

 

Mary grew up in west central Louisiana, graduating from Leesville High School. After attending Birmingham Southern College, she earned her B.S. in Business Administration at Brenau Women's College in Georgia. Mary is married to Joel Werner and they are the proud parents of three children.
